Weaving social spaces into Housing Authority project

Bay Vista is an 82-acre site in Bremerton, WA,  being developed by the Housing Authority of Bremerton to be an urban, mixed-use, pedestrian oriented community with 760 new housing units, five acres of parks and open space, and a small retail and commercial center.

We’re honored to be partnering with the Housing Authority to create a plan for humanizing the Bay Vista development through social spaces, integrated art and community-crafted elements.

The Pomegranate Center team is working with the HA team to weave social spaces into the community fabric with shelters, benches, spaces for community celebrations and games. And we’re building strategies to:

  • Strengthen way-finding
  • Infuse the neighborhood with art that will educate about the natural environment and human history
  • Integrate artistic elements into architecture and street furniture, and
  • Turn potentially unattractive spots into beautiful amenities

And, true to our approach, we will create ways for community members and Bay Vista residents to be appropriately involved in designing and building portions of the projects.

This is the kind of work we at Pomegranate Center love! Not only is it considering the importance of social spaces and local, unique identity, but it is doing so from the very beginning of the process. This will be a great neighborhood to see come to life.
