Introducing the DIG Fund!

We receive regular calls in the office from community activists, neighborhood groups and other mixes of citizens asking for help. One person has a great idea for turning a neglected lot into a beautiful space with benches and art and gardens. How should she proceed? A community group had an unproductive community meeting about a park, leaving people angry and frustrated. Can we help with facilitation? An arts group wants to create a small park but has no experience with designing spaces. Can Pomegranate Center help?
We would love to respond to every one of these requests with a rousing โof course we can help!โ To us, these calls are signs of community vitality and optimism. They come from people who see opportunities for enhancing their neighborhoods and offer their willingness to act on their good impulses. These folks start with plenty of ideas, but few other resources.
And that is why we launched the DIG Fund.
The DIG Fund will help make these deserving projects a reality. Each year, we will select one or more projects and partner with them to build the resources they need to see the project all the way through. We will provide training in engaging the community, partner with the community to raise funds, and add our expertise in community process, design and building.
The DIG Fund projects, like all of our projects, are really about building the resources within the community to do the work. Pomegranate Center is not doing the project for the community; we are providing the support needed so the community can do the project for themselves.
We have been doing this kind of community work for over 22 years, and are so excited to share our reservoir of learning with other communities. The DIG Fund will put this learning to good use.
