Pomegranate Center receives National Endowment for the Arts grant for transitional housing project in Yakima
“I have been eager to work with Pomegranate Center for many years now,” says Next Step Housing director John Mifsud. “And we are so excited that 2008 will be the year we can finally partner!”
Thanks to an exciting grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, Pomegranate Center will be working with John and the Next Step Housing team to build artistic elements, including streetlights and signage, for the new Pear Tree development in Yakima, WA.
“The NEA grant allows us to add greater livability to the Pear Tree neighborhood, which will really impact this community of the previously homeless and people living with special needs,” said John.
We at Pomegranate Center are excited about the project as well. “This will be our first project in Yakima,” said Milenko, “and it is a great one to be involved with. We believe that artistry should not be a secondary consideration when planning any community project. It is great to work on projects like this one that understand that beauty nourishes the soul.”
Building workshops for the artistic elements will begin in spring 2008. Watch for announcements on how you can get more involved in this project!
