We are honored to win a People’s Choice Award through CityClub’s 2008 Community Matters Campaign!

The Community Matters Campaign focused on the importance of social capital—the ties that bind the citizens of King County together as a community. Through educational forums, community dialogues, and discussions on avenues for action hundreds of people helped identify strategies we should take to strengthen our social capital.

Pomegranate Center was nominated for our work on engaging and empowering communities to create meaningful gathering places for themselves.

At the award celebration on November 19, CityClub shared some early anecdotal results from the Campaign. Perhaps most interesting to those of us at Pomegranate Center was one of the recommendations that came from the Campaign participants: in order to increase public trust, they said, we should increase the number of community gathering places and opportunities for gathering. We couldn’t agree more!

We are honored to be recognized along with six other award winning and runner-up organizations: ACLU of Washington, Artist Trust, Neighborhood House, Refugee Women’s Alliance, Seattle Young People’s Project and Technology Access Foundation. Thank you to CityClub and all the people who participated in the Campaign!
