Join us: The Salishan Community Garden and Park Building Week
In partnership with the Tacoma Housing Authority and Walsh Construction
WHAT:
A joyous week of building beautiful community spaces for the Salishan neighborhood, a relatively new Tacoma Housing Authority development. We’ll work with community members to create artistic community garden improvements (gateways and fencing), a small park and shelter, and a natural playscape.WHEN:
Tuesday, 9/8 through Monday, 9/14
Building 7:30am through 6pm daily

Volunteer FAQ
Do I have to stay for the whole week?
Nope. You can join us for one full day (7:30am to 6pm) or participate for the whole week! The more time you can commit, the more fun you’ll have…trust us!
Where do I stay?
Volunteers will be lodging in two unoccupied homes on site- it’s a slumber party! Bathrooms and kitchens will be available.
What about meals?
We provide breakfast, lunch and dinner for all our volunteers. (The after-hours wine and beer is extra…)
Do I need design or construction experience to participate?
No. We design our projects so anyone can participate meaningfully. Our skilled team mebers will help you feel like an expert in a matter of no time!
What do I need to bring?
Here is a short packing list:
- Work clothes
- Closed-toe work shoes
- Toiletries and a towel
- Work gloves (we have extras)
- Tool belt (if you have one)
- Water bottle
- Sleeping bag, pillow and Thermarest or air mattress (we will be sleeping in two unoccupied homes in the neighborhood)
