Integrating art into high-density, affordable housing

Pomegranate Center was commissioned to integrate artistic elements into the Village at Overlake Station—a national model for high density, affordable housing built on the lid of a Park & Ride transit facility. We added a decorative welded-iron gateway, 200 tiles with colorful images of animals to a breezeway wall, and several benches constructed of recycled plastic with ornamental carvings. Later, we added fencing designed by metal artist Paul Sorey, after community meetings we conducted revealed a concern for greater safety. We also enhanced the entry to the HeadStart office with some playful imagery from the natural world.
